Pom Poms are Happy Things

Sure Mondays can be a drag. But even the bleakest, greyest Monday starts to look pretty good when you look at a bunch of pom poms.

The Caked Crusader has outdone herself on the pom pom production for Innocent Smoothie hats. So much so that I'm afraid I'll have to insist she make some more. I can't have some hats topped with this glory and others not.

(She's got to do something while those cakes are baking.)

I've sort of stalled on the hat making -- so I'll need to give them some attention this week.

Of course I've stalled because I've been obsessed with knitting the Lyra. It's moving along more quickly than I expected -- at the cost of actually doing anything else. Like laundry, shopping or sleep.

I'm becoming a convert to the German charting style - there are definite advantages, particularly when you have long stretches of plain knitting or a set of stitches to be repeated X times.

I'm also considering abandoning my beloved Addi Lace needles for KnitPick circulars. I used the KnitPicks for the early rounds and switched to the Addi's recently when the KnitPicks were too short. The smoothness of the KnitPicks and the super sharp points are sorely missed - particularly now that I'm attacking the mini cables in the flowers.

That's right. This Niebling guy has put cables in lace.

Cables. In lace.

Egads.

Worlds colliding. Anarchy.

I can only imagine what else he has up his Lyra sleeve.

Your Lyra is beautiful. And you've talked me into it. I shall be starting this as soon as my yarn arrives from colourmart(yes, I purchased even more yarn).

I heard that the smaller size lace Addi turbos don't taper quite right for lace work. Was that what you didn't like about them?

Cables? In lace??? You are a very very brave person, and I am very very impressed. Lyra is moving along swimmingly - it's going to be beautiful!

Lyra looks beautiful! Cables in lace? That sounds... complicated! Well worth it though. I've slowed down on the hats too with my stole having taken over my life.. must knit more hats this week!

Sigh. You are way ahead of me. I got atalled with the Moth. I am binding it off now, so perhaps I can catch up to you in row number, but maybe not in gorgeousness!

Lets change complicated to challenging. I like a knitting challenge. I'm glad you are making friends with german patterns. And it's so hard to get a desent pic of bunched up lace on a cable needle.

Lawks a lordy, your lace is amazing! I thought because I'd tackled the Hanami that I'd entered the hallowed realms of 'Lace Royalty', but how naive was I?

And the pom-poms look cute, but remind me of being in the Brownies. Mine were always crap and disintegrated at the slightest touch.

Lyra looks just beautiful, Soo! But that cables in lace thing threw me for a loop! I'm glad you typed it twice, because I sure did a doubletake! You're making such great progress. And way to go on the Innocent hats. What a wonderful cause!

Another hat done today! Making a grand total of.. er... 8. *looks sheepish* that's not very many is it.
Your pom poms (well the caked crusader's) look hugely supoerior to mine, which look very obviously handmade, and are at least as big as the hats they are attached to.

Can't believe how much Lyra has grown! Just how many stitches do you have on the needles at the minute?? It's looking stunning!

And love the wee pop poms! Years ago, I had a pom pom making kit in my Christmas stocking. Do I ever wish I still had it!!

Lovely lovely lovely! Wonderful knitting job. It really is very addictive and those mini cables show up in other patterns of his as well. I'm up to row 155 so the flower part is done for me. I have not posted because pictures at this stage are quite difficul to obtain. Your shawl really is beautiful!
