Good News and Bad News

Good news first. I found a local knitting group! I met up with them tonight and had a great time. Laughed a lot and even managed to get a bit of knitting done.

The bad news is that although I've made some pretty serious knitting progress on the orange blanket/throw I know it isn't really working. In fact I think I realised that quite a while ago (pretty much after the first pattern repeat) but as usual I go into denial about these things and just keep knitting in blind faith that somehow the extra knitting will sort out the problem.

This approach has never once resulted in success. It only ever means more wasted energy and more knitting to frog when I finally do admit the truth. But still, I cling to the hope. As there were so many stitches (over 500 by this time) it was a squashed up blob on my needles and I tried to blame all of my reservations on that. But in my heart....

When I got back from the knitting group I knew it was time to get serious about the orange thing. So I slipped the stitches onto some cable and pinned it out.

Sigh.

I hate being right.

The yarn is too thin for the effect I want, and the variegated orange just doesn't help. The pattern is fighting it and losing.

So, I'll leave it pinned out just in case by some miracle it looks more like I want it to in the morning (it won't) and then I'll frog it tomorrow night.

FWIW, I think the blanket looks lovely :)

Could you dye it a different colour when it's finished? A deep red might look good.

lovely colours, but I hate to say I think you're right.... I hate that moment of reality, but once pulled back you'll feel better....

I have terrible luck with varigated yarns and lace work myself. I have a shawl I am going to over-dye when/if I ever finish it because of the same problem you are having. If you really hate it you may not finish it like me and my shawl. It might look better as a ripple stole if you decide to frog it. It might also look good in Feather and Fan pattern.

I like it too I have to say BUT its if you do, I hate that feeling of not knowing what to do, hope you can find a good solution xx

Wow, soo. That's a tremendous amount of (very lovely) work to frog. But, if you don't like it, then you don't like it. I went through that with some socks recently (not nearly as much work, but still). Even though they looked lovely, they just weren't working. There's that moment of sheer terror right before, but once you start pulling it all loose, it's quite liberating, really.

At least you found a lovely new group of friends to lament your situation with you!

Ahh Soo, I like it too. I understand why you're concerned, but I really really like it.

I like the overdying idea, but if the thickness of the yarn is bothering you, I guess it's to the frogpile you go....

I think your blanket looks like sunshine. But if you don't like it, then overdye it.

And yes, you definitely need new friends if nobody wants to go to Get Knitted. boo.

Gorgeous blanket but I agree with you to frog it. Never mind. I am learning to not go into that denial thing when knitting!

i really like it too but can understand your issues. Its such a shame to frog it after you have done some much but if it makes you happy...:)

Oh bummer. I feel your pain. I'm getting ready to frog an afghan too. It's just not doing it for me. I've had bad feelings about it from the beginning, so it's time to let go.
