Where's my Stick-to-it-ness Gone?

Jessica gently pointed out that although the pictures of niece Dylann's socks were nice the first time....they start to smell just a little after the 5th trip!!  (She was far kinder - but I know what she meant.)

And in the course of deciding what to blog about -- I discovered that my stick-to-it-ness has up and gone.  I have lost the ability to focus.  Let me take you through the evidence.

First, the Queen Susan - is exactly where it was the last time I blogged about it.  I was going to pick it up but somewhere in my brain I seem to be hatching a plan to start the Wedding Ring Shawl (the pattern arrived in the post a few weeks ago).  Clearly this is a silly thing to do right now so I just parked the idea...and the Queen Susan.

Knitting socks for Dyl reminded me of two things - first - that I like making socks - and second - that there is someone who really deserves some socks and has been waiting (probably without any hope) for a long time for them.  With this in mind I picked up some Duet Sock Yarn and started knitting.  (And yes - in my experience it does always make these lovely little stripes.)

I have pretty much completed this pair -- but here you can see the first signs of un-stick-to-it-ness -  the ends aren't woven in.

Then I started these Embossed Leaves socks (from Favourite Socks)...

...and for some reason that I can't quite remember I became obsessed with buying a set of the shorter Knit Pro (Knit Picks) sock needles.  This forced me out to IKnit where I bought the sock needle set and some more sock yarn - .  (Because really, what I need is more sock yarn.)(Sigh.)

The Knit Pro needles are shorter than I was expecting when the obsession began -- in my head they were 5 inches -- but in real life they are four inches (feel free to make your own joke here about size).  I haven't decided yet whether I like them or not.

On my way home from IKnit I started another pair of socks with the new yarn.  I actually made it to the second sock, right down to the toe before I abandoned them ...

....because gorgeous goddaughter Genevieve pointed out that I had made no progress on the Summer Night Top for Caroline.  So I picked that up, finished the front and cast on for the back and worked diligently on that for about 10 rows before I....

.... I cast on these socks (Colinette sock yarn).

Most worrying of all - I've come across this sock in progress -- and I have no recollection of when I cast it on.  Is it possible to have sock knitting blackouts?

My goal now is to find my sock sitck-to-it-ness and finish these babies so I can get on to some serious lace knitting....

I Love Swan Lake!

I love the ballet and so far I'm loving the Swan Lake stole -- which we discovered yeserday is the real identity of the Mystery Stole 3.

We were all predicting a dramatic change following clue 4 and we weren't disappointed. Melanie has introduced a curved 'wing' shape into the otherwise straight edged stole. She has posted a schematic of the final shape of the stole but I haven't looked at it yet as I'm really enjoying watching the shape unfold. This clue consists of short rows to give the curved shape, and a very soft feather pattern. Quite a departure from the previous pattern.

I've finished clue 5 in white and I'm looking forward to knitting it up on the black one, but it may be a few days before I get to that. Because....

I've discovered another mystery. Which is: how is it that of all of the finished objects you share with your co-workers the one that gets (BY FAR!) the most enthusiastic response is....the iPod sock? There was lots of love for the iPod socks at work yesterday (and indeed from my goddaughter when I gave them to her). There was so much love that in a moment of weakness I agreed to whip up a Blackberry sock and a couple more iPod socks over the weekend.

It's a good thing I love knitting lace enough not to need validation from my friends and colleagues!!!!

Who Knew iPods Had Feet?

I've been doing a bit of sock knitting this week. I completed this pair of socks from the gorgeous S. who is my best friend's second oldest daughter (and therefore my goddaughter's little sister). They are a plain sock in a very non-plain yarn -- Popsicle Jitterbug from Colinette. This colourway belongs to people like little S who is one of the sunniest, brightest, coolest people around!

I've also been knitting my goddaughter some socks for her iPod Nano. I confess I don't really understand the purpose of socks for an iPod - but they are cute, easy to knit and she wanted some. Nothing else to say really!

Work on the Melon Scarf is progressing well - only about 8 repeats of the centre panel left. That means I really should start thinking about what edging I want to use.

In the meantime I will cast on this scrummy purple yarn from Cazza's sock club to make some Latte Lace socks. I particularly like the detail on the heel of this pattern. When I bought the pattern I planned on using some cocoa coloured yarn (also from Cazza), but the purple arrived and I just have to knit it up. (I have a strong love for purple.) I think she's just opened up another 3 month subscription which I expect I'll be signing up for! (Because you can never subscribe to too many sock yarn clubs.)
