It's Been a Long Week.....

....the highlight of which was someone attempting to break into my house last night. I was home at the time, and they did a runner when they realised I was there so no harm to me or my house. But it was unnerving. Add to that a general aura of 'blah' and you will understand why this Wednesday evening finds me munching through a bag of wine gums wondering what's it all about anyway? And how is it that someone thinks they are entitled to damage your house to take your belongings?

I don't have an answers to those questions so instead I'll update you on my quest to reduce the Greenwich sock yarn mountain.

So far in 2008 I have managed to churn out these kiddie socks and a beanie. They are from MiddleEarth Yarns - Davy Jones colourway. Lovely yarn to knit with.

I've also completed 2 pairs of Opal 4 ply socks (Feeling I think). The intended recipients don't like 'matching stripes' so these should be acceptable. I went plain with the blue ones, and a roving rib on the rainbow socks (2 x 2 rib, moving 1 stitch every 6 rows).

However, all finished objects must be balanced with new projects and to keep the earth spinning on its axis the knitting gods today delivered a back issue (Fall 2006) of Interweave Knits magazine to me. I am so in love with my Ene's Scarf (I use it most days) that I decided I wanted to make another similar size/shape scarf and the popular Swallowtail Shawl from this issues was an obvious choice. The current plan is to make it up using some Handmaiden SeaSilk from my stash.

The Forest Path Stole was progressing well but has been stalled by the burned out light bulb in my favourite lamp by my favourite knitting chair. This bulb isn't readily available - so I won't get a replacement until the weekend. I can't seem to bring myself to knit the stole in any other chair. (I'm a freak.)

Well, I've made some serious headway through the packet of wine gums and am now feeling vaguely ill. I think a rubbish DVD is next on my 'wallowing in self pity' list.

They probably got 'cold feet' and wanted to steal some of your socks? Just kidding. But it must be a very unpleasant experience. That's why I have a dog, but if they'd make it in the house, she might just slober them to death. :) But she looks and sounds scary enough to drive them away.

I'm making some rotating rib socks right now too. Yours look great, as do the other ones.

I have a serious wine gums addiction. It's a good thing that the only place I can get them here is in a shop that sells English goods. If they were more readily available, I'd be in trouble.

Appalled at their wretched behaviour, sorry for your distress, relieved that nothing worse happened. Sending good vibes your way. Ex

I can sympathise with your unwelcome guest it happened to me when I was still living with my parents and it really unsettled me.... so I hope you're feeling calmer soon...

You're quite correct the pattern for your socks is Feelings if you want be to be really sad I can tell you the colour numbers? while I like them I'm not encouraged to knit that pattern I like stripes of varying depths such as the KF Landscape.... IYKWIM

The stole is looking very smart and Again I can understand only wanting to knit in your favourite chair, I only like knitting at my end of my sofa when I'm home... Have to agree Fall 2006 IK was one of the best published

Oooer, Soo, really sorry to hear about your fright - now you know the other purpose for knitting needles.

Forest Path looks superb in that colour, but I'm slightly worried about all those dpns. I haven't read through the pattern yet, but I'm obviously in for a surprise.

Take care, duckie - I'm off to investigate the MiddleEarth Yarns site....

I've been reading your blog for some time and though I have ooo'd and ahhh'd at what you have knit, I've never come forward with any remarks. Suffice it to say that you're great, be brave, and keep us on top of all that you're doing!

First, I'm glad that you were not harmed in the break-in. Second, I'm sad to hear that story. I agree - what gives with people thinking they have the right?

On the knitting, I love the roving rib on that sock. All of your socks look great, though. And your not wanting to knit anywhere but your chair cracks me up!

And do share whatever rubbish DVD you choose, please!

Grrrr at people trying to break in. Thanks goodness you're ok and your home is all ok, but still very disturbing nonetheless.
You are the most insanely fast knitter I've ever come accross, and yet the quality of your work doesn't ever fail you - it's fantastic!

Actually, the Paton's shawl was kinda find--after a while, I just winged it. Glad you like it!

On to the International shawl!

Cheeky beggars!!!! That's outrageous. Remember it's nothing personal - they're just morons.

Yes, the socks are "Feelings" - I've got the blue one too. I think it's called "Jeans" but I'm not sure.

Wine gums. Must eat wine gums. Now. I grew up on that stuff and love it.

You've been incredibly productive, as usual. I'm off to knit my one pathetic, ill-fitting pair of socks now.
